Security Chief Says Saudi al-Qaeda Militant Killed in Raids

al-qaeda441ABYAN, 16 March -- Security chief in the southern region of Abyan, Abdul-Razaq al-Marouni Tuesday confirmed reports al-Qaeda leader in Abyan, Jamil al-Anbari was killed on Monday’s airstrikes, the defense ministry website, 26-September said.  “Al-Anbari, Ahmad Um Zurba and Saudi citizen, Sameer al-Sanani were killed in the strike that targeted them on Sunday night in the region of Jiza Ahl Qanan in the district of Moudia,” he said, adding “the three were among the most dangerous elements of al-Qaeda and tests were made to identify their corpses,” stressing “security services continue to hunt down terrorists and outlaws until they are apprehended.”

Iryani Says Intelligence Agency Infiltrated by al-Qaeda

iryaniSANAA, 11 March -- President Saleh’s Senior Political Advisor, Dr. Abdul-Karim al-Iryani Friday denied reports Iran is supporting the secessionist movement in south Yemen and repeated his claims the Political Security Organization (PSO) in Yemen is “infiltrated by al-Qaeda,” stressing “I am not the first one or the only one who says that and I believe the 2006 jail break of al-Qaeda militants from the PSO prison in Sanaa could not have happened without the complicity of some smaller employees.”

JMP: Peaceful Revolution Underway, Regime Must Go

jmprallyinsanaa1TAIZ, 11 March -- In a news statement following a rally organized by the opposition, the branch of the opposition alliance, the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) in the southern region of Taiz Thursday denounced what it called “barbaric repression of peaceful protesters in Taiz by security forces,” adding “the clampdown on peaceful demonstrators caused the injury of many and dozens were arrested.”  The statement said “security forces used live bullets, clubs and water hoses to disperse the crowds,” adding “all this reflect the hysteria of the regime and that it is frightened from the day of judgment which is near,” adding “by such barbaric measures, the regime thinks it can oppress the people and put out the flame of the on-going peaceful revolution but it is oblivious to the fact that oppression only accelerates revolutions.”

Military Base Turned into Airport for U.S. Warplanes

armouredvehciles1AMRAN, 28 Dec -- Orders were issued Monday to commanders of the al-Jabal al-Asoud military compound in the war-torn region of Harf Sufian to “hand over some posts and central command to American soldiers,” the independent online website, Samaa reported citing ‘informed’ sources, adding “part of the military compound was turned into a temporary airport for American fighter jets.”  The new airport is located near the main highway linking Sanaa and Harf Sufian regions amid concerns the United States is planning to expand its military operations in Yemen.  “Observers have voiced concern the U.S. will have the upper hand to fight whom it sees as a threat to its security especially that Harf Sufian is a strategic area overlooking several villages and provinces in Yemen including Amran, Sadaa, Hajja, Marib and al-Jawf,” said Samaa.

Anti-Corruption Officials Quit Protesting ‘Flawed’ Elections

saeddinbintaleb1SANAA, 28 Dec – Four members of the state-sponsored Supreme National Authority for Combating Corruption (SNACC) Monday suspended their membership protesting the re-election of Ali al-Ansi as the head of authority and Belquis Abu-Asba as his deputy, the independent Barakish online website reported.  Members of the authority, Azaldeen Seid al-Asbahi, Yassin Abdu-Seid, Khaled Abdul-Aziz and Ahmad Qarhash demanded a new chairman amid news two of them walked out from Monday’s meeting held to elect a new leadership.
