SADAA, 19 Dec -- Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs, Brig General Muhammad Abdullah al-Qawsi Saturday said Thursday’s attacks on al-Qaeda sites in Yemen were coordinated with Saudi authorities and other neighboring countries. Al-Qawsi who was speaking to the Saudi Akad newspaper from his office in Sadaa said “the security operation against al-Qaeda was the result of security and information exchange between Yemen and neighboring countries including Saudi Arabia, adding “Yemen won’t hesitate to extradite any Saudi detainees to the kingdom.” He said al-Qaeda militants were planning to attack the Saudi embassy in Sanaa, adding “all vital installations are subject to attacks but we are vigilant,” and described security cooperation with Saudi as “extraordinary especially in the war on terror,” stressing “we and our brethren in Saudi Arabia are fighting the terrorists together.” “100 soldiers from the anti-terrorism units carried out the preemptive attack against al-Qaeda hideouts in Abyan and Sanaa,” he said, adding “these units are well-armed and well trained and each one of them is equivalent to 100 men.”
