Al-Ansi Says Regime Responsible for Crisis in Yemen

SANAA, 25 Oct — Secretary General of Yemen’s Islamist Congregation for Reform (Islah), Abdul-Wahab al-Ansi Sunday said the opposition alliance, Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) is seeking to hold a national conference of dialogue in order to solve all the problems of Yemen.  Al-Ansi who was talking to the Doha-based al-Jazeera satellite TV channel said “the opposition will hold a meeting in the near future in Lebanon to gauge the views of some opposition members living abroad concerning the national rescue plan,” adding “this plan contained three main pillars.  The first diagnosed the crisis in Yemen, the second proposed solutions, and the third suggested mechanism to implement the solutions.”  “The regime is responsible for the current crisis in the country.  The JMP and the dialogue committee have exerted painstaking efforts to bring people around a dialogue table,” he said.  On events in south Yemen, he said “what is happening in Sadaa and south Yemen is the result of the state’s extremism, its policies, and the reactions to these policies that were not bounded to the law and constitution,” and urged “all to bear their responsibilities, adopt peaceful and democratic struggle and seek dialogue.”

GPC: Influential Outlaws Hijacked Islah, Dominated its Decisions

SANAA, 24 Oct — In a statement published on its official website, the General Committee of the ruling General People’s Congress (GPC) Saturday condemned the latest communique of Yemen’s Islamist Congregation for Reform (Islah) dubbing it a “pathetic attempt for exploitation.”  In the communique, Islah voiced its support of the political movement in south Yemen and demanded an immediate halt to the war in north Yemen and the GPC statement said  “a group of influentials has hijacked Islah and dominated its decision-making,” adding “a large segment of Islah’s members are marginalized … and this influential group of outlaws has dragged Islah into supporting scission plans that threaten the nation’s unity, sovereignty, security and stability.”  “No politician or intellectual can comprehend the content of Islah’s latest communique which is full of contradictions and pschyophornia,” said GPC, adding “we cannot understand what this influential group inside Islah want through its calls for a halt to the war.  They should have used their influence in the JMP to convince the rebels to stop fighting.”
