Al-Qaeda Wing in Yemen Says Will Avenge Air Strikes

strike3SANAA, 28 Dec – In a statement posted on Islamist websites, al-Qaeda wing in Yemen Sunday said it will avenge air raids launched against its alleged hideouts in Abyan and Shabwa last week.  The statement said the raid was carried out by five American fighter jets and killed 50 men, women and children, and called on “tribes in Yemen and the people of the Arabian Peninsula to help them face the Judeo-Christian crusade on Islam through striking their military bases, embassies and navy fleets.”

Hassan Zaid Says No Results Achieved in Meeting with Saleh

hassnazaid1SANAA, 26 Dec -- Head of the Shiite al-Haq political party and former chief of the opposition alliance, the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP), Hassan Zaid Saturday warned in a statement posted by the independent Altagheer website against what he called “the mix-up between al-Qaeda militants and members of the peaceful southern political movement,” adding “such a mix-up is dangerous, constitutes direct attacks on civilians, turns people into enemies of the state, destroys citizenry, and pushes people to join any movement regardless of its agenda.”

Hundreds of al-Qaeda Militants Station along al-Khour Mountains

Leaders of al-Qaeda in YemenSHABWA, 25 Dec -- Al-Qaeda militants are controlling the mountainous region stretching between the southern provinces of Abyan and Shabwa, al-Tagheer independent website reported on Friday citing local sources, adding “the mountain range of al-Khour between the two provinces is rough, without roads and very difficult to reach and it is estimated more than 350 al-Qaeda militants are stationed there.”

The sources said “members of al-Qaeda network started to lure many young men and have been organizing seminars, meetings and speeches especially after Anwar al-Awlaki arrived in the area coming from Washington,” adding “another individual named Fahed al-Qasia is considered the second man after al-Awlaki and has been active in recruiting young men from al-Rafed region in Shabwa.”  Al-Awlaki was imprisoned for a while at the Political Security Organization in Sanaa and after his release, he moved with his family to al-Rafed area where he has been lecturing at mosques and meeting with youth from the region.  Meanwhile, dozens of families Thursday started to leave al-Rafed area to Attaq in Shabwa fearing more air strikes after warplanes bombed al-Qaeda alleged hideout in the area killing 30 operatives.
