AQAP Says Will Move Operations Center to Sanaa

saedshehri1SANAA, 12 March -- The independent website, Marib Press Friday cited “former al-Qaeda operatives,” as saying “al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in Yemen has been making arrangements for months to move its headquarters to the district of Arhab, 15 kilometers north of the capital, Sanaa.”  Talking to Marib Press editor, a number of al-Qaeda members, most of them from Arhab, who were released from prison a few days ago said al-Qaeda military commander in Yemen Qasim al-Rimi and AQAP chief in the country, Naser al-Wahishi “and others were telling us during meetings with them of movements to transfer the command center to Arhab,” adding “compared with remote regions such as Shabwa or Marib, it is less risky to enter Sanaa from Arhab especially suicide cars and explosive belts.” They said “AQAP network picked a number of targets in the country including foreign embassies, senior security officials and security centers in the capital.”

Taha: Houthis are Part of Iran’s Plan to Hurry al-Mahdi Emergence

nasertaha1SANAA, 26 Dec -- Naser Taha Mustaffa, head of the state official news agency, Saba, Saturday said the Houthi rebels in north Yemen are part of Iran’s strategy of “creative chaos,” used in Iraq and other parts of the world.  “I believe - as a political reader - that there are no common theological denominators between al-Qaeda and the Houthis but there might be common goals,” he said, adding “it is extremely difficult to see a strategic alliance between al-Qaeda and the Houthis but all of them seek to destabilize the regime in Yemen.

Protesters in Lahj Condemn Strikes on Abyan, Shabwa

Protesters in Lahj last weekLAHJ, 25 Dec -- Hundreds of people took out to the streets of several cites in the southern province of Lahj on Thursday condemning air strikes on suspected al-Qaeda hideouts in Abyan and Shabwa.  The protesters urged the Arab League and the United Nations to investigate what they described as “cold-blooded massacre of innocent civilians in Abyan and Shabwa.”  They chanted anti-government slogans, held banners of former president of south Yemen Ali Naser Muhammad and reiterated demands for the release of protesters detained in previous demonstrations.

Security soldiers watched the protesters as they marched in the streets without clashes.  Similar rallies were also held in the southern towns of al-Habileen and Radfan where thousands of people marched in the streets condemning the military raids that “targeted women, children and the elderly,” the Islamist Alsahwa website reported. On Thursday, and hours after tribal leader and head of the southern liberation council, Sheik Tariq al-Fadhli vowed to avenge the death of al-Qaeda militants, gunmen attacked a number of security and military posts in the southern region of al-Dhala.  The opposition Nasserites website, Alwahdawi reported “massive explosions rocked the city of al-Dhala on Thursday,” but no casualties were reported.
