JMP: Peaceful Revolution Underway, Regime Must Go

jmprallyinsanaa1TAIZ, 11 March -- In a news statement following a rally organized by the opposition, the branch of the opposition alliance, the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) in the southern region of Taiz Thursday denounced what it called “barbaric repression of peaceful protesters in Taiz by security forces,” adding “the clampdown on peaceful demonstrators caused the injury of many and dozens were arrested.”  The statement said “security forces used live bullets, clubs and water hoses to disperse the crowds,” adding “all this reflect the hysteria of the regime and that it is frightened from the day of judgment which is near,” adding “by such barbaric measures, the regime thinks it can oppress the people and put out the flame of the on-going peaceful revolution but it is oblivious to the fact that oppression only accelerates revolutions.”

British Sun: UK Muslim Terror Cells Training in Yemen

alqaeda5LONDON, 28 Dec -- The UK’s Sun newspaper Monday cited British police as saying two dozen British Muslims are training at ‘secret’ terrorist camps in Yemen in hopes of carrying out attacks against western airliners.  “At least 25 British-born Muslims are plotting to bomb Western commercial jets,” said the Sun, adding “the British extremists in Yemen are in their early 20s from Bradfor, Luton, Leytonstone and East London and are due to return back to the UK early 2010.”  The men are of Pakistani and Somali descent and some of them studied engineering while others computer science at British universities.  The paper quoted a Scotland Yard source as saying “the men will await internet instructions from al-Qaeda as to when to strike and claimed the 23-year-old Nigerian, Omar Abdulmutallab who tried to blow up a US airplane on Christmas day had trained in Yemen.

Ali Naser Says He is in Contact with Saleh, Separatists

alinaser1DAMASCUS, 28 Dec -- In an interview with al-Watan al-Arabi newspaper, former president of south Yemen, Ali Naser Muhammad who lives in Damascus Monday said he is willing to help resolve the on-going crisis in Yemen if he was asked, stressing he is not hoping to hold an official post in the country.  He said “the number of protesters in one of the anti-government demonstrations in the south reached more than a million,” and disclosed he is in contact with President Ali Abdullah Saleh and leaders of the southern separatist movement to “find solutions for the crisis in the south.”  “One month after the summer civil war of 1994, I called for dialogue with the defeated side and I told President Saleh about that but he declined to act on my advise,” he said,” adding “those who are calling for the separation of the south from the rest of Yemen are the ones who called for the reunification with the north.”

President Saleh Mulls Terrorism, Rebellion with Opposition Leaders

saleh6nSANAA, 25 Dec -- President Ali Abdullah Saleh Thursday night met with leaders from the opposition alliance, the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP), the independent website, al-Tagheer reported.  Head of Yemen’s Socialist Party (YSP) Dr. Yassin Saed Noman was absent and sources said the meeting addressed a number of issues and intended to “clear the atmosphere and create a suitable climate for dialogue between the two sides.”  Officials at the meeting admitted opposition journalist, Muhammad al-Maqaleh who was kidnapped four months ago “is in state custody and facing a number of charges.”  Relation between the JMP and the ruling General People’s Congress (GPC) has soured lately and the meeting addressed last February’s agreement between the two sides in addition to President Saleh’s call for dialogue amid news JMP leaders refused to participate in the dialogue which was supported by the European Union and demanded all parties and players including Shiite rebels and members of the southern political movement take part in the dialogue.  The meeting also discussed military air strikes on al-Qaeda hideouts and rebellion in the north.
