Displaced Families Near Border with Saudi Appeal for Help

HARAD, 25 Oct — Hundreds of families fled the conflict zones in the district of Razeh in Sadaa and arrived at the areas of al-Azhor, al-Hojla, al-Qad, Shaban and al-Qor near the border with Saudi Arabia.  The families were trapped for weeks in the areas of Barkan, al-Farq, Bait al-Haiaf, Mashraqa, Araba, Jabal al-Azd, al-Zaharia, al-Jarha, Al-Zabiah, Wadi al-Mein, Sha’ar, al-Qala, al-Sahla and al-Shaif in Sadaa where government forces are battling Zaydi Shiite insurgents.  In a phone call with the independent news website, News Yemen, the families appealed for immediate assistance saying “we are running out of food, and there are no shelters.  We had to flee our homes leaving behind everything we owned.”  The families urged international humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen to help them describing their situation as “disastrous.”  The rebels have surrounded their areas and last week controlled a number of military outposts including the old airport in Razeh, al-Damq military compound, and the strategic location of Barqan in addition to the areas of Shawaba, Qailt Shaban and Baisibas.
