Saleh al-Zawari Thursday said the separatists in south Yemen are part of the opposition’s military wing, adding “information we have indicate ties between outlaws and criminal activities they committed in some southern districts with the opposition Joint Meeting Parties (JMP).”  He accused the opposition alliance of “instigating unrest, looting, theft and road blockades in the southern regions,” adding “the rally held by the JMP in Sanaa on Thursday was a green light for outlaws to continue their crimes of killing innocent souls in Radfan, al-Habeleen, al-Dhala and Zanjubar.”

Aden-Abyan Army Leader Calls for Implementing Islamic Sharia Law

khaledabulnabi1SANAA, 29 Dec -- Leader of the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army, Khaled Abdul-Nabi Monday called for the establishment of an Islamic state in southern Yemen and denounced last week’s air strikes on al-Qaeda hideout in Abyan, the Saudi-owned al-Sharaq al-Awsat reported.  He blamed the United States for what he called “the massacre of al-Mahfid district,” which was targeted by air strikes last week saying “most of the dead were women and children.”  Abdul-Nabi denied any links to al-Qaeda and expressed willingness to join the southern political movement “if it implemented the Islamic Sharia.”  “Al-Qaeda in Yemen is merely a pretext for the massacres committed,” he said and criticized Yemen’s security cooperation with the U.S. saying “authorities in Yemen are moving in the wrong direction,” and denied any ties to the regime or to President Saleh’s half brother, General Ali Muhsen saying “it is all rumors cooked by security agencies for their own purposes.”  On separation calls in the south, he said “injustices, discrimination, bilking peoples’ money, looting lands, oppression and barbarism, use of violence, corrupt judiciary, corrupt security agencies and so many other reasons are behind these calls,” and stressed “if the state fails to uphold the Islamic Sharia, then I will join the southern movement.”  Abdul-Nabi who owns a farm in the southern city of Ja’ar in Abyan is leading a band of Jihadists and in response to a question whether he would carry out terror activities, he said “until now, we have no activities but I smell that some are trying to drag us into the battlefield.”
