Yemen Ranks 141 in Human Development Report

SANAA, 16 March -- In a human development report issued by the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP), Yemen ranked 141 out of 181 countries, News Yemen website said.  The report titled: “Overcoming Barriers: Human Mobility and Development,” focused on challenging stereotypes about migration and migrants saying “our world is very unequal.  For many people in developing countries, moving away from their home town or village can be the best and sometimes the only option available to improve their life chances.

Human migration can be very effective in improving income, and education prospects for individuals as well as families.  It can also help boost opportunities of success for the children in the future.  But its value is more than that: being able to decide where to live is a key element of human freedom.”  The report said migration can enhance human development but the current global recession is expected to impact remittance flows and that 17 million people from the Arab world were forced to leave their countries and homes because of violent conflicts.
