Opposition Leader Says End of ‘Injustice’ is Near

hamidalahmar9aSANAA, 29 Dec – Speaking in a rally held on Tuesday outside the headquarters of the Cabinet in Sanaa, Member of Parliament and opposition leader, Sultan al-Atwani said “the day of lifting injustice is near and good omens for that day come through peaceful struggle,” adding “today the heat of sun is more easier than the burden of injustice and Yemen and its people are awaiting a new dawn.”  Head of Faculty Union at Sanaa University, Dr. Abdullah al-Azazi denounced what he said “unfair legal measures taken against faculty members Dr. Abdullah al-Faqiah and Dr. Khaled al-Fahd because they stood up against financial and administrative corruption inside the university.”
The teachers were lately suspended and al-Azazi said “the union had reached an agreement with the university’s dean to stop the measures but nothing was done.”  Director of Yemen’s Committee for Defending Human Rights and Freedoms (HOOD), lawyer Muhammad Naji Alawa urged people in the rally to “continue peaceful struggle and not be tempted by calls for violence,” and condemned what he called “unlawful killings committed by the state.”  The rally repeated calls for the release of suspended newspapers and kidnapped journalist Muhammad al-Maqleh.
